Modern Edition?
If I were to make this into a modern edition by today’s standards, I would probably make it some kind of electronic text. I feel like because it is a collection, I would make a website that is able to display each of the different aspects of this manuscript. I believe that the texts in it like Beowulf and Judith deserve to be shown to everyone and all the letters and leafs throughout the manuscript should be able to be viewed by the public as well. It is because of this being a collection of different texts that I think using a website would work best, especially since they are in other languages. A website would allow for a bunch of different languages and versions to be easily accessible to the public. I would definitely still include the few weird illustrations in the manuscript, but I would make other original illustrations to go with the other texts. That way it wouldn’t just be a daunting piece of text. Most people in the world have access to technology, and I don’t think it’s fair that collections such as these can’t be understood by anyone. I would want to make this manuscript easier to understand as well in the transcription, so I guess you could say that I would want to make it more directed towards a teen or young adult audience that way anyone can easily understand it. I think this manuscript is really fascinating and that everyone should have the ability to understand it thoroughly.
